02 Dec PODCAST: An interview with Lewis Bush
In this, the first Documentary Photography Review podcast, we interview Lewis Bush about his journey into photography, his work as a professional photographer, and focusing on his documentary project, Canvey Island, which he completed during his MA at the London College of Communication.
Lewis’ Biography from his site:
“Much of my practice concerns the hidden tides of cause and consequence that lie beneath the surface of the seemingly static and mundane. How things which we perceive to be peripheral and unimportant, and the emanations of which we believe we allow to pass over us are in fact absorbed deeply, and affect us profoundly.
Past projects include investigating the effects of counter-terrorism and urban security using home-made cameras, studying the re-emergence of the past in the context of the Eurozone crisis, and appropriating and reworking appropriative art works to comment on the means of their production.
I originally studied history at the University of Warwick, then worked abroad for the United Nation’s UNAIDS agency helping to improve national HIV/AIDS strategies. Returning to the United Kingdom I worked for the National Health Service before turning to photography full time in 2011. I graduated with a distinction from the documentary photography master’s degree program at the London College of Communication in 2012.
I now continue to develop my own projects while working with clients in a range of sectors, increasingly with museums and cultural institutions. I also write frequently, contributing to various online and print publications, and I maintain my own blog ‘Disphotic‘ a widely read mixture of musings on photography, journalism, history, and art.”
